Here is my heart breaking story with loads of video evidence below the story.
Surrey BC March 2015 to April 2016
We came to Canada in 2015 as Govt supported landed (Refugee) immigrants. We moved to our rented apartment in Guildford Surrey BC in April 2015.
My 1st 911 call was a trap
After a few months of our arrival, I made my 1st 911 call. It was nighttime. Right outside of my Bedroom window a woman was shouting kicking & hitting a man. She also threatened to stab him. I called 911 and the couple left. Later I received a call from a Police officer. He thanked me. I was informed that they found both and any further damage was avoided. After a few days I received a letter from RCMP. They appreciated my effort and invited me to some of their celebration occasions. I did not go.
After that there were series of incidents outside my bedroom window which required an immediate 911 call. My mother advised me not to call. Something was not right. Years later in my Access of information report I found a different version of the incident. It said that after my 911 call Police was deployed in all directions but did not find anyone. Why police misstated? Was the fight staged to enroll me in police file as a lying person?
I started studying in Stenberg College Surrey. I passed 1st few exams with outstanding marks. Later it changed in 2016. I went through harassment and staged unsafe situations. I reported that. I was offered compensation. I left my studies to keep myself safe.
Once an Indian woman called me. She addressed me by my 1st & last name (Sadia Khan) She laughed while talking with a sarcastic tone. I called the police to investigate Police investigated & informed me that her teacher is also named Sadia Khan and she called me by mistake. I was not convinced. How many mistakes? 1-Same Name 2-Same Phone number 3- Same voice as mine. Years Later In my ATIP info I found out that Police misstated the incident. They wrote that I got a text message & called Police. I want to know why Police lied about this matter?
Our Manager Of (Guildford Building) Grace who had been reasonable during entire year, suddenly started giving us hard time. She forced us to allow bathroom work while no work was needed at all. We kept main door opened. The workers closed it many times. They also closed the curtains of living room. We felt very uncomfortable. She continuously forced us to allow more workers in the house. We had already finished our one-year rental lease. We notified her that we shall be vacating the apartment. She & her Supervisor tried hard to stop us. On 22 April 2016 we flew to Toronto. I video tapped the entire house before leaving to the airport. When we arrived in Toronto, we received an email from her. She wrote that We had made the apartment very dirty. She also claimed that she had found some dangerous items she had many witnesses to back her claim. I replied, “Please shut up, I have video tapped every inch of the apartment just before leaving.” She was silent. Years later When I got my Access of info report from Police, this matter was referred in a very unclear manner & further info was redacted. Was Police part of the plan which failed due to the video proof?
In Ottawa 2016
We went to Ottawa. In June 2016. We lived in (2448 Carling Ave) apartment # 404 in Ottawa for a month. Our stay was extremely uncomfortable. Owner Adib an Egyptian guy forced us to allow large number of workers inside our small, rented apartment to do some long-term wiring work. I had arguments with Adib for violation of our privacy. His servant Yasar came in my room and kissed me. My exhausted scared mother advised me to keep quiet. We thought Pakistan has deployed groups to harass us. We planned to change our names to hide from these groups.
We travelled to Victoria BC to change our names. I changed my name from Sadia Khan to Sofiya Azaria and my mother became Bushra Noor. Unfortunately, our troubles continued, and we were harassed by building Managers all over Canada.
In 2016 October we came back to Ottawa and lived in the basement of Voyagers Motel 2nd building at Kent St for 6 months.
I walked my sister Amal to School and noticed that Police cars often circulated around us. I thought it was for our protection. I often waved to them as they passed by me again and again.
I started a job in a factory but was laid off within a month. The Motel manager Hasan was kind but later became disrespectful. He often forced us to allow his workers in the small storeroom in our basement. His assistant Mustafa became very aggressive with us.
Welland Ontario 2017
We decided to buy our own house. I had enough savings (from the sale of our house in Karachi). We left Ottawa and soon I bought my own 1st house in Welland ON. On 15 March 2017 we moved into our new house (21 Crowland ave Wellanad ON) Few days after our arrival, a white man from our neighbor met us. He requested me to meet 2 Pakistani guys. He also said that he will provide me with a car and a driver free of any charge for as long as I live in Welland. The request and offer were unusual. I refused him. Few days later I found a hanging rope in our backyard. There were also marks of cross outside our house. My mother saw someone in our backyard at midnight close to our Shed. We put some security cameras. The Black guy who was installing cameras was very nice. I told him about our problems, He instantly said, “its Police” Later I showed the hanging rope to the Lady from Home security services. she advised me to contact Police. I reported that to the Police and showed them the rope and briefed them about our problems. They returned the hanging rope without any examination and did not pay more attention.
I bought my 1st car in Canada. I used to pass by my sister s School (Eastdale High) & often saw police cars in the parking lot. She talked about frequent interactions with Police. She told us that Police tells them about their fake operations to catch criminals. I found it very strange. Once she left home for 3 days and nights for volunteer work. When she came back, she only talked about Police. It looked very unusual to us.
I applied for my citizenship & wrote to IRCC about my ongoing troubles. My Citizenship was approved after my test & interview in less than 5 months. I was thankful & very impressed with IRCC help and their understanding.
I took 4 jobs in Welland but lost them all within weeks. Soon uncomfortable things resurfaced. I was followed from one place to another. They never tried to harm me, but I felt very insecure. I always found my car door open and many people in the street around our house at midnight. Our next-door house was busy with people and vehicles 24 hours. Our security Cameras stopped working. My security alarm test failed many times. I question the Home Security (Rogers) about this failure. They came up with different versions of the answers. Whenever I tested my alarm, they failed to call. I thought Pakistani groups have traced me and decided to make another attempt to hide from them. I sold my house. I felt rich & thought with so much money we will easily hide in some other province and get rid of our enemies forever. Little did I know that I would only spend my money running from one place to another. We never bought anything new. All our shopping is from 2nd hand stores.
Met a kind police officer.
We left Welland. We were followed by some Indian and Pakistani guys. I complained to the bus driver & he called the Police. We were taken to Parry Sound police Station. There were 2 Police officers who spoke to us. One was harsh and the other was kind & professional. He looked visibly worried for us. He gave us some pieces of valuable advice to deal with our difficult situation. He drove us to an emergency shelter & registered us there. Previously we had tried Shelters but were refused everywhere. We will always remember him as an Angel.
We went to Newfoundland with huge hopes as its located far off. We were disappointed soon. We tried Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, & Manitoba everywhere we were harassed by Motel & Building staff & followed everywhere including the airports. My teen sister Amal Khan’s name was added to the travel restriction list. We were stopped at all the airports. Calls were made and later we were allowed to board. They told us that the name Amal Khan was on the travel restriction list. It was obvious that it was a technique to track our whereabouts and movements. Disappointed we came back to Toronto. Also, it was very scary that we were being traced on a high official level.
In Toronto June 2019
In June 2019, we got registered in Family Residence (4222 Kingston Road Homeless Shelter.) They sent us to live in Lido Motel Room # 204. We were assigned a single room while the other 3 member families were living in very large rooms. In the beginning We were welcomed by other fellow Homeless families. Soon it changed. They stopped talking to us. They were aggressive towards us. I bought packs of Chocolates for kids in the Shelter for Howleen day. No one knocked at our door. A few days later I spoke to some friendly little boys. They informed me that all kids were told not to go to Room # 204 (our room)
After a couple of months Police started visiting the Motel on daily basis. They started parking their cars Infront of our room. They made visits to the front office. Groups of families were going to the front office before and after the arrival of the Cops. We were the only family who never visited the front desk area.
Once a group of Cops was in our building for hours. I went and talked to them very respectfully. I asked them if everything was alright. An Indian looking Police officer snapped at me and said, “Do you have any problem?” I said No I am ok. He said, “if you are ok then everything is ok. If you have no problem, we have no problem.”
I was bussing. Many people followed me wherever I went. I had my bus card with unlimited trips. I started getting off and on from the bus. I changed the bus after few stops & took wrong turns to check on people. I was horrified to know that they followed me from one bus to another on subways and anywhere else. I was under constant watch wherever I went. I wondered who was paying so much money. I thought Pakistan has contacted Saudi Prince to pay for the expenses. When Covid 19 started I was still followed but with a smaller number of people. I shared videos of groups of people visibly following me. No one paid attention in Canada. Only Human Rights Watch took notice. They wrote to me that they cannot interfere with Canadian Govt but would like to use these videos for Research purpose if I allow them.
Family Residence supervisor Alen started forcing us to leave the Motel. We were surprised, there were families who were there for over 2 years. Alen said, “your case is different.”
I made many complaints to the higher authorities of the shelter. No one helped.
During the strict lock down of Covid19 when moving in and out of the rented places was forbidden, we were served an eviction notice in June 2020.
In Quebec 2020
We left in June 2020 to try Quebec. Large number of Police followed us everywhere in Montreal. Police cars, police on bicycles and on foot followed us everywhere including in the streets.
We left for Quebec City & registered in Lubeverive Homeless shelter. As soon as we reached in our room, I saw from my window Police cars going to the back of the building. I was afraid that Police will brief the staff against us. I went running downstairs and found 2 Police cars & 4 Cops talking to the staff member Claudia who just registered us. I begged the police to let us stay in peace. They reassured me & left. Claudia told me “You are safe inside the Shelter. They (Police) are not allowed to enter the Shelter.” I asked her what they talked about. She didn’t answer. Claudia felt our pain. After a few days she suddenly informed us that she would be out of work for 15 days.
few days later at night around 5 am, my mother opened the door to go out to washroom. She found a man with a key who was about to open our door. He left upon the sudden encounter. In the morning I complained to a staff member (Maaya) about this incident. She said he was checking the keys on the locks. It’s routine work. After that we put a chain from inside.
Homeless women in the shelter started behaving as if they feared us. They ran from us. Claudia came back as a changed person. She didn’t look me in the eyes. She told me she is like anyone else. After a couple of weeks all female staff was replaced with unfamiliar men. They were tall and very strong and looked like commandos. They walked in the passage between the rooms at nighttime. Some police like new (apparently homeless) women came to stay. Claudia met me outside the shelter. She was riding a bicycle. She was very sad for us. she said sorry with teary eyes and told me she was helpless. Alarmed & broken, we left the shelter.
In Alberta 2020
We were exhausted with ongoing problems and planned to buy an apartment in Alberta. We moved to Edmonton and stayed in the Jokey Motel for 2 months. I tried hard to buy an apartment. I offered full cash payment of the asking price but failed to buy any apartment. Many times, I saw police officers going to Manager ‘s office. We had an extremely hard time in the Motel. Despite Covid 19 restrictions we were forced to allow Motel staff to frequently visit our suite. I was followed by police cars and many undercover agents when I went out. Police cars were permanently stationed near the Motel.
In October 2020 I wrote to the House of commons (Conservative members) about our problem. Next day Police broke our door and took us to the Royal Elexandara Hospital to get us checked for mental illness. All 3 of us were kept in different rooms. Police was all over & RCMP senior officers were there to update the Doctors with their version of our story.
I was assigned a room just opposite the front desk. It was a very busy location. Around midnight an Indian male staff woke me and very sweetly informed me that I am being transferred to a nice new room. He carried my bag and took me to a far-off large room in an isolated area. He left smiling and wished me good night. I realized something was wrong. I ran back to my room. I heard a female voice from front desk, “ Sofiya came back.” Next day we were discharged from the hospital. While I was in the Hospital a Pakistani Dr Maqsood Yusafzai called me several times from Toronto. He asked me to appoint him as my doctor. Later he forced me to let him speak to my doctor. I reassured him but never followed his advice. I knew he was helping my enemies.
We went to Red Deer Alberta. Upon our arrival I took a promise from the Motel staff that they will not harass us even if it’s requested by Police. They laughed and promised. Surprisingly, they kept their promise. I decided to buy a car. I visited car dealers. I was offered a huge selection to choose from. Next day when I contacted them again no one was ready to sell a car. I knew Police has come into play. I quietly contacted an Edmonton car dealer on the internet. I finalized the purchase of my current Fiat car through emails without making a single phone call. Next day my car arrived at my door from Edmonton to Red deer.
In a 2nd attempt to buy our own apartment we booked our stay in Ponoka Motel Alberta for one month. We had already spent one day in this motel previously and were familiar with the Motel and the Manager named Hasan. Upon arrival the once kind and caring Motel Manager had changed. He requested me to cancel my booking. I was surprised & refused to do so. He refused to provide us with blankets, phone and other very basic stuff. We had long arguments. Next day we canceled our booking. As we were leaving the motel, we saw 2 RCMP cars arriving at the main gate of the Motel. Hasan rushed to meet them.
We briefly went to Calgary and later moved to Regina on 19 January 2021.
